Cockles

Are clams that can be found in sandy sheltered beaches throughout the world. Their scientific name is Veneridae Cockles are a bi-valve mollusk. They inhabit tidal flats to 5 meters depth. They are collected by digging with large forks in the sandy shores of bays and estuaries and by wading. They are sold live in the shell to local restaurants or distributors. There maximum size is about 8cm diameter.
