waterWater bottled has always been popular in France that has a lot of different types of water to choose from. Some may be imported to your country and some others that you will only find when travelling to Europe. This article is to help you to make the difference between the various types of waters as well as discover the most famous French brand names and their attributes.

Water: Source of Life

Water is essential to live. A human body is made of 60 percent of water so a man of about 70kg (154 pounds) countains about 40 liters of water. The body eleminates between 2 to 3 liters a day. You replace that loss by eating, but overall, by drinking water. That is the reason why drinking three to four glasses of water daily is advocated by nutritionists and doctors. A humain can live without eating for about a month, but needs water after two days to survive. Depending on their components some waters are good for your health when others should me drunken moderatly. Some waters are actually not recommended for kids. Read the label and ask your doctor if you are no sure.

Non-effervescent Waters

Natural spring water

Water derived from an underground source. No claims concerning medicinal (preventive, alleviative or curative) effects shall be made.Spring water It is the same as the "natural spring water" except that it has been reated to remove unwanted microbiological components. So it is not "natural" anymore".

Natural mineral water

A natural mineral water is collected under conditions which guarantee the original bacteriological purity, therefore it is not subject to any treatment and it is bottled close to the point of emergence of the source with particular hygienic precautions. These characteristics, may give natural mineral water properties favourable to health. Natural mineral water may also be naturally effervescent.

Purified Water

Water from any type of water supply (lake, river, ...) that has been treated to make it safe to drink. So it can be tap water that has undergone a process to lower the mineral content and to remove chemicals such as chlorine.

Effervescent Also Called Sparkling Waters:

At source or after bottling, effervescent natural mineral waters give off carbon dioxide spontaneously and in a clearly visible manner under normal conditions of temperature and pressure.

Sparkling Water

Naturally Carbonated Natural Mineral Water

Natural mineral water which, after possible treatment and re-incorporation of gas from the same source, has the same content of carbone dioxide spontaneously and visibly given off under normal conditions of temperature and pressure.

Natural mineral water fortified with gas from the spring

Water whose content of carbon dioxide from the water table or deposit after decanting, if any,and bottling is greater than that established at source.

Carbonated natural mineral water

Water to which carbon dioxide of an origin other than the water table or deposit from which the water comes has been added.
